A Maine native, Eric serves as managing director for Alex. Brown in the Portland office, and provides comprehensive wealth management services to a select group of families. Eric has worked with families, nonprofit organizations and private institutions for nearly 25 years. He provides valuable guidance on the complex aspects of wealth management through coordination with his clients’ tax and estate professionals. He was recognized as one of Barron’s Top 1000 financial advisors in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2017, and was named to the Forbes Best-In-State Wealth Advisors list in 2018 and 2019.

Eric is a graduate of Ithaca College, where he earned a degree in psychology – a program he feels has served him well in understanding client motivation and behavioral finance. Later, he earned his Accredited Asset Management Specialist designation from the College for Financial Planning. This designation reinforced his understanding of capital markets, portfolio construction and effective asset allocation. He is the author of numerous articles and shares his thoughts directly with clients, and through written commentary.

Eric spends his free time with his wife, Angela, a business owner, test knitter and designer, and their children, Madison, Grace and Carter. They like to stay active both physically and mentally, whether it’s sailing together on the Maine coast or working with the Coast Guard, where Eric and Angela volunteer. In addition, Eric and his children volunteer at the Preble Street Resource Center, serving meals to those in need, and he is the former chair for corporate fundraising for the Bristol Valley Theater. Eric especially enjoys morning walks with his dog, Tyler.

Barron’s Top 1,000 Financial Advisors. Barron’s is a registered trademark of Dow Jones & Company, L.P. All rights reserved. The rankings are based on data provided by over 4,000 individual advisors and their firms and include qualitative and quantitative criteria. Data points that relate to quality of practice include professionals with a minimum of 7 years financial services experience, acceptable compliance records (no criminal U4 issues), client retention reports, charitable and philanthropic work, quality of practice, designations held, offering services beyond investments offered including estates and trusts, and more. Financial Advisors are quantitatively rated based on varying types of revenues produced and assets under management by the financial professional, with weightings associated for each. Investment performance is not an explicit component because not all advisors have audited results and because performance figures often are influenced more by clients’ risk tolerance than by an advisor’s investment picking abilities. The ranking may not be representative of any one client’s experience, is not an endorsement, and is not indicative of the advisor’s future performance. Best-In-State Wealth Advisors (2019)
The Forbes ranking of Best-In-State Wealth Advisors, developed by SHOOK Research, is based on an algorithm of qualitative criteria and quantitative data. Those advisors who are considered have a minimum of seven years of experience, and the algorithm weighs factors like revenue trends, AUM, compliance records, industry experience and those who encompass best practices in their practices and approach to working with clients. Portfolio performance is not a criteria due to varying client objectives and lack of audited data. Out of 29,334 advisors nominated by their firms, 3,477 received the award. This ranking is not indicative of an advisor’s future performance, is not an endorsement, and may not be representative of an individual client’s experience. Neither Raymond James nor any of its financial advisors or RIA firms pay a fee in exchange for this award/rating. Raymond James is not affiliated with Forbes or Shook Research, LLC.
